Partnership in Action: How The Solar Squad Grows a Smarter Solar Business with Enerflo

The Solar Squad Team

At Enerflo, we're proud to partner with solar companies that are doing things differently, companies where the customer comes first and the process is built to match. One of those partners is The Solar Squad, a vertically integrated solar company based in Pennsylvania. We sat down with Kim Eisenhower, Owner, and Christian Waters, VP of Growth and Strategy, to hear how Enerflo supports their unique culture, what results they've seen, and why their partnership keeps getting stronger.

About The Solar Squad

The Solar Squad (also known as Solar Girl and Solar Guy) started as a sales organization and has grown into a fully vertically integrated operation, bringing installations in-house and doing everything under one roof. For Kim and Christian, solar isn't just a product. It's a relationship.

"We're one big family of solar doing everything in-house vertically. We started first as a sales org, and now we've brought everything in-house and we're installing all of our own stuff. We've been growing and growing, and our relationship with Enerflo has been a big part of that."

The Challenge

When The Solar Squad came to Enerflo, they didn't fit a standard mold. Kim had spent years building a precise customer process with specific documents, specific automations, specific ways of handling interconnection paperwork across Pennsylvania's many utilities. Finding an operating system that could match that without forcing them to change was the real challenge.

"We came in with a lot of ideas. We're like, 'Hey, we do this and we do that.' We're not cookie cutter, we're not the same. We're definitely not the solar bros. We're not those people that just have done things a certain way and this is the way it works every single time."

Pennsylvania's utility landscape adds a layer of complexity most systems and platforms aren't built for. With utilities like FirstEnergy, Met-Ed, PPL, West Penn, PECO, and Duquesne Light, each with slightly different documentation requirements, manually managing interconnection paperwork was slow and error-prone.

The Solution

Enerflo became the operating system The Solar Squad configured to fit, not the other way around. Working closely with their partner success manager, the team rebuilt their interconnection document workflows, customer agreements, and automations inside Enerflo from the ground up.

"We were able to bring all of that in-house, even to the point that we could customize the agreement, customize the electrical interconnection documents. When we're doing interconnection documents, a lot of that is already done for us because we've done the work ahead of time. It fills in the customer's meter number, account number, address. If you've ever filled out interconnection documents, you know how repetitive that can be."

For Christian, the operating system's ability to communicate with the rest of their tech stack was equally critical.

"What I love about Enerflo is it just communicates well with our tech stack. We use Podio, we use Site Capture, Enphase Enlighten, and it talks to everything. It keeps everything organized and keeps us really efficient and prioritized."

The flexibility to design live in the field was another major unlock. The Solar Squad regularly sets up at home shows, and being able to pull up a live Aerialytic design on the spot, and adjusting it in real time with a customer, became a signature moment for their team.

"We set up at a home show and we were able to do live designs with everybody and confidently show them, 'Hey, this is what your system can do right now.' It was amazing what we're able to do with this software."

The Results

The numbers tell the story. In a single month, The Solar Squad saw:

• Deals up 157% (7 to 18)

• Proposals up 143% (7 to 17)

• Contracts signed up 275% (4 to 15)

For Kim and Christian, these results reflect what happens when the operating system actually fits the business.

"Get on a tool like Enerflo that integrates with the financiers you need and the proposal tools that you need so that you can guarantee efficient processes, accurate proposals, and speed from sale to installation and financing."

Lessons Learned

One of the biggest insights from The Solar Squad's journey is the value of patience during configuration. Their interconnection document workflow took from June to October to fully implement, but the payoff was a solution built exactly to their specs.

"It wasn't perfect right away, but we tweaked it, we reworked it, and we just got to the point that we got it where we wanted it to be. The fact that everybody worked together to make it happen, is priceless. Just priceless."

Christian adds that the key is a willingness to listen on both sides.

"Us listening to what can be done, and then Enerflo listening to what they could do, and then kind of meeting in the middle. Every day we come up with an idea and [our PSM] puts her head up: 'I'll run it up the ladder. I'll go to the engineers. I'll see what I can do.' Nine times out of 10, we find success."

Their advice to new partners: don't wait until you've tried everything to lean on your Partner Success Manager (PSM). Start there.

"Dig in. Work with the representative to really make it fit your needs, your niche. Have an open mind and be like, 'Okay, this could really help.' You heard what we wanted, and that's exactly what all of these interactions and relationships should be."

Looking Ahead

The Solar Squad is expanding; Kim signed the lease on a bigger location the day of this interview, and Enerflo is part of what's making that next step possible. Christian estimates they're currently using about 30% of what the OS can do. The plan is to unlock more.

"We're gonna grow with Enerflo because we haven't really unlocked all of what Enerflo has. We just had a conversation about … ‘how can we communicate better with clients?’, and the answer is Enerflo. So we'll unlock more as we grow; it's just a tool that we find kind of invaluable right now in our tech stack."

For Kim, the next phase is about taking their already-strong customer care to an even higher level.

"How do we really push that customer care, that customer service to an even better level than we've been doing so far? We're always thinking about what can we do better? Because ultimately, if they have a good experience, they're gonna tell other people, and referrals are our main source."

For The Solar Squad, moving from a sales org to a vertically integrated solar company wasn't just an operational shift, it was a culture being built in real time. Enerflo didn't make them fit the software. The software learned to fit them. And that's exactly the kind of partnership that's built to last.
